Housing for CBS spring 2027: what to do if you don't get a room

CBS student-residence rooms for spring 2027 are given out by random draw, and international full-degree students cannot apply for them at all.

This page collects the key dates, realistic alternatives and scam warnings from official sources, so you can plan calmly and start early.

If you don't get a CBS room

Housing Foundation Copenhagen

Housing Foundation runs a spring booking round in late November. If you are not a UCPH student, for example a CBS student, you send your admission letter to Housing Foundation by email to be invited. Capacity is limited, booking is first come, first served, and there is no waiting list.

Private rooms and sublets

There is no central register for private rentals in Denmark, so you will need to look in several places. CBS says it can take 2 to 3 months to find a place. CBS also welcomes you to search for private housing on your own at the same time as you apply for a CBS room, so it makes sense to start now.

Official housing guides

CBS points to the housing guides from Study in Denmark and the City of Copenhagen. They explain how renting works in Denmark and where to start looking.

Living further out

CBS notes that rent is lower outside central Copenhagen and cheaper still in the outskirts and suburbs. Public transport is good, so the suburbs can still be a reasonable distance from your studies.

How to search on Flatmate

  1. Browse rooms in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, where CBS is located. Each listing shows the rent, the size and the move-in date.
  2. Create a free profile and describe your daily habits, so hosts get a sense of what living with you would be like. It is free for tenants and needs no card.
  3. Message hosts you are interested in, and always book a viewing in person before you pay anything or sign.

To be honest: Flatmate is new and small, and we have few rooms yet. Please search other places too. Flatmate is not a housing company and does not check the identity of hosts or tenants. You and the host make the rental contract yourselves.

Avoid housing scams

  • Never pay a deposit, prepaid rent or rent for a room you have not seen in person. A video call is not enough.
  • Check who owns the home on tinglysning.dk, and make sure the person you talk to actually owns the room or apartment.
  • Do a reverse image search on the photos in the ad.
  • Make payments to a Danish bank account.
  • Don't let an eager landlord pressure you into deciding fast.
  • Always sign a written sublease agreement or rental contract. By law, the owner can ask for at most 3 months' deposit and 3 months' prepaid rent.

If something goes wrong

Tenants in Denmark are protected by the Danish Rent Act. Disputes between tenants and landlords can be settled by the Rent Control Board (Huslejenævnet). There is a fee to bring a case. The City of Copenhagen explains your rights and where to get legal aid on its tenant rights page: https://international.kk.dk/live/housing/finding-a-place-to-live/tenant-rights-and-legal-aid
