Coming to University College Copenhagen (KP) or Roskilde University (RUC) as an exchange student in spring 2027? Here are the official dates, what each school's housing help does and does not promise, and what to do if you still need a room.
This page is also for people in Copenhagen and Roskilde who have a spare room and want to host an exchange student.

- 1 October 2026
- KP application deadline for the spring semester for students who need a visa and for nursing students.
- 1 November 2026
- KP application deadline for the spring semester for EU/EEA students.
- About 14 days after the deadline
- KP usually sends its decision on your application.
- 1–2 months after the deadline
- You hear from KP Housing if you applied for housing in your online application.
- November 2026
- RUC emails accepted spring exchange students about campus housing and how to apply.
- 1 February 2027

KP Housing sends one offer only. If you reject it or miss the deadline to accept, the room goes to the next student on the waiting list, and KP cannot guarantee housing for everyone. RUC does not guarantee a room either, but says it is normally able to house all exchange students who applied before the spring deadline.
What each school offers
KP Housing
KP helps enrolled exchange students find furnished rooms in student residences and private homes. Expect a commute of half an hour to an hour each way. KP gives typical prices of DKK 4,700–7,500 per month, and some places charge the full semester up front.
SourceRUC campus dorms
RUC has a limited number of rooms for exchange students in three campus dorms: Korallen, Kolibrien and Rockwool. The deposit is DKK 11,000 and the rent is DKK 4,200–5,300 per month, depending on the room.
SourceIf you still need a room
- Start as soon as you know you are coming. RUC advises you to secure housing before you arrive in Denmark.
- Check where your classes are before you choose an area. KP says a commute of half an hour to an hour each way is not unusual in the Copenhagen area.
- Check whether the room is furnished. RUC notes that rooms are usually rented without furniture, and furnished rooms are fewer and more expensive.
- Expect a deposit. RUC says a deposit of about 3 months' rent is common in Denmark.
- Search on several sites at the same time, including Flatmate.
Flatmate is a small, new listing site with few rooms so far. We cannot promise you a room, so please search in several places at once.
Avoid housing scams
- Never pay anything before you have seen the room and signed a contract. KP warns that almost every semester, students are tricked into paying in advance.
- Check that the person you talk to actually owns or rents the home.
- Do a reverse image search on the photos in the ad.
- Always get a written rental contract.
Have a spare room? Host an exchange student
Exchange students arrive for a semester that starts in early 2027. School housing is limited, so some of them look for a room in a private home.
- Use a written contract. The Danish standard form exists in an English version. Room rental contract guide
- If you rent your home yourself, check your right to sublet first. Subletting guide
- Rental income can be taxable. Read how the rules work before you set the rent. Room rental tax guide
- Say clearly whether the room is furnished, what the rent includes and when it is free.
- Listing a room on Flatmate is free.
